Treasures to uncover. . .

We purchased this amazing 1900 farmhouse and accompanying grounds, barn, garage, and marshland near our local creek. The property is a little unloved at the moment, but that's just time, energy and elbow grease. The inside of the house is where we're focusing our current energy so we can move in by mid-February. The details are what we've fallen in love with inside this home...

The detail work in this house makes me positively swoon. These are the main stairs in our foyer. Yes, in good time the carpeting needs to go. But, egad, this woodwork!
The main part of the home was at some point attached to the smokehouse of the home, thus resulting in our den/bonus room. We haven't quite figured out what to call it, but the doors between it and the main house are the thing of a farmhouse decorator's dream.
We have tons of lights to change out, still can't find all the light switches, and are evicted until the smells from the poly on the floors is cured. The random plank white oak floors are in amazing condition. I asked the hubs if he was covered in sawdust when he emerged from gutting the basement underneath the floor sander. He hadn't even thought about it but not a speck of dust had fallen upon him. This house just has good bones. Inlaid with character. And bursting with stories.
